It depends on their ISP. During our setup and testing process we tried testing to the IP and found that our ISP blocked this to eliminate SPAM.

Here's a new on me:
We've got a customer who's DNS is royally screwed up.
We know it, they know it. They are trying to fix it.
 
In the meantime, they want to know if there is any way we can
send mail directly to the IP of their mail server.
