Thank you! Playing around with it this morning we found that if you click the Configure button for external database configuration when setting up a domain with a number first and instead of leaving it as [default] for the table name, go ahead and put what it would normally be [123example_com] and it actually works and creates the table and root user and then any users you create are not lost.
This removes the need to manually create the tables or prepend anything to the name. Thought this might be helpful for all using external dbases.
