If they have a valid account, yes (or if they find the password to an 
existing account).  That would be a very slow and difficult way to send 
spam, however.

There are no known security holes that would allow someone to send spam 
directly with POST/GET (like can be done with some formmail scripts).

If you have a copy of one of the spams that was sent, you can post the 
headers here.
