If I had known anything about mail servers or if I had been
running Unix networks when I started all this then I probably
would not have bought IMAIL to begin with. There is nothing in the
documentation that says you should not backup one IMAIL server
    with another.

There have been numerous messages on this list where one IMAIL
admin has offered to backup others. I just always assumed they
would use IMAIL servers to back up other IMAIL servers.

Regarding the account name parsing perhaps you are correct and I
should not have stated it so directly - one of my several character
deficiencies. It just appears to me that something different happens.

If I send a message to "acct_1%domain_c@acct_2@domain_a" directly to
the IMAIL server I get this error message:

        Unknown host: acct_1%domain_c@acct_2

When I send the same message from the backup server for domain_a then
the domain_a server sends the message on to acct_1%domain_c.

If I use a backup server besides IMAIL then this does not happen either.

SW> Agreed. Hope I gave you some helpful details.

Sanford, I always enjoy reading your posts. They are always
interesting, complete with lots of details and you actually
experiment with many of the things you hypothesize. And you often
have an interesting point of view almost always.

Of course there are several of the list with unique perspectives
on mail servers and life in general. Who would have thought that
e-mail and philosophy had so much in common.

Like I say I don't really care about this issue since I am using
Declude's % test which solves the problem. I do find IMAIL's
position on it both interesting and amusing.

Cordially,

Terry Fritts
