Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] IMail server
and Platypus Database
I'm
using Plat with Imail with no issues. What versions of Imail, Plat,
and Boardtown's Plat->Imail integration are you
using?
Are
you using the stock Imail DLL, or the Platypus provided
DLL?
I
was very closely involved with Boardtown making the switch to using an
SQL view, and a 'more stock' Imail ODBC dll. Compared to the
way they originally did things, it requires many fewer connections to the
database (the original Boardtown way left 3 connections per domain open
to SQL). One problem, though, is I see now that Boardtown does
not provide a DLL at all.
The
DLL that I use was one I recompiled from the Ipswitch source. The only
changes that I made to it were to comment out any functions that either
added or deleted tables or records to the SQL database - As I want existing
users to be able to update their password and profile from web messaging, but
I did not want accounts or domains to be added from Imail (as they would just
become orphaned data as far as plat goes, as they would not be referencing any
certain customer.) Customers can add/delete emails from the Plat
customer account web interface, this adds them to the billing DB correctly,
and then they work from Imail too.
If
you are using the stock Ipswitch DLL, this could be what is happening to
you (a second instance of an email is being created, but you don't see it in
plat because it isn't tied to a customer correctly.). You could confirm
this by manually walking thru the email_data table and see if you find any
duplicate usernames (the table allows duplicates for username, because
you could have the same username at different
domains).
"IF THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG", I can send you the
dll I modified to take those settings out, but it's for 6.06 (I haven't made
the brave jump to 7 yet) I'm sure modifying for 7 is much the same,
just have to get the source from Ipswitch, comment out some calls, and
recompile.
Hope this
helps,
Tony

Subject: [IMail Forum] IMail server
and Platypus Database
Hello,
I'm looking for a subscriber who is
running their IMail server with Platypus as the external user database.
PROBLEM: Web Mail users who choose the "change user information" option are
inadvertently re-creating their mailboxes when they click "save." They call
in saying that they're locked out and when I check the IMail Administrator,
I see that they now have two mailboxes instead of one.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chad
