Bryan, I'm afraid that syntax will always be part and parcel of anything that runs on a computer. If Ipswitch were to allow for colons, semi-colons and/or commas in the list of DNS servers, I'd bet that somebody would then ask why slashes are not allowed ;) And, speaking of DNS, why is it that in some resource records the host name must end with an additional period, such as "mail MX 10 mail.domain.com."?
