I am using Windows 2000 server with IMail 7.1. I have a basic question
about IMail installation. I setup the primary host name as being different
than the computer name indicated in the Network Properties page. It seems
to work, but is this ok? Will I face other problems down the road by doing
it this way?

The manual seems to imply that my primary mail account should have the same
name as my full computer name. However, this computer is part of a domain
called "primocomputers.com" which already has a mail server running on a
different machine on the network. I want to install IMail independent of
this other mail server. The actual computer is located in my brother's
office, hundreds of miles away. He setup this computer at my request as I
offered to buy IMail and set it up for him. He is using a Wildcat mailbox
system connected with Sendmail. I like IMail much better, and want to show
him how much better IMail is. So, I connect to the computer using
pcAnywhere and I am doing the installation remotely.

The computer name is ns2.primocomputers.com, which is assigned
205.217.113.11 (this computer will hopefully be used as a name server in the
future, but the DNS on this computer is not setup right now). What I did
was ignore the manual's directions about getting my host name information
from the network properties page. I asked my brother to make DNS entries
for mail.bestware.biz to point to 205.217.113.140. Then I setup IMail with
the primary host name of mail.bestware.biz instead of the name by which this
machine is known as on the Network properties page (ns2.primocomputers.com).

I noticed that my brother neglected to put the PTR record in the DNS for
reverse look-ups, but I tested it anyway. Mail seems to flow fine in both
directions either within the network using the IMail Client program, or from
outside the network using Outlook Express and my ISDN dial-up connection
using mail.webcosolutions.com for mail delivery. The web interface seems to
work great also.

I'm at a very early stage of the setup right now, and so I could reinstall
everything right now. The only users are test users that I set up. I want
to make sure I get this foundation right before going forward. Even the
domain name is not yet being used for anything but this testing.

My question is: Did I set this up ok by using a different primary host name
than that specified on the network properties page? I know everything
works, but will I have problems in the future? Will I have problems when I
start adding virtual hosts? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am
very new at this and I seemed to have done something contrary to the
directions in the IMail User's guide.

Thank you for your time.
