It definitely is a winsock error -- however, it is for the reason shown above.
The Winsock 10054 error is "Connection reset by peer", per Microsoft
documentation. That means that the remote mailserver closed the connection
due to the software on their end. It said "I am now closing this connection".
It would be nearly impossible for a NIC card problem to cause a 10054 error.
