I had what I believe to be a similar issue like this today for the first
time. The domain that it was sending to had 4 mx records. 2 With a
preference with "3" and one with a preference of "5", and one with a
preference of "100". One of their "3" preference mail servers was down
instead of trying the other server with a preference with "3" it jumped
right to the "5".

Is that behavior normal if you have two mail servers with the same
preference?

Subject: [IMail Forum] IMail not using MX record preference correctly?

Before I turn up the logging level to send to Ipswitch, has anyone
seen this before? This is the second time this has happened. It
appears that IMail does not honor the preference returned with MX
records but rather tries sending to the first one returned. Here's
what happens...

I try to send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] If I do an mx lookup on
domain.com and get the following returned:

domain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = smtp2.domain.com

domain.com MX preference = 20, mail exchanger = smtp3.domain.com

domain.com MX preference = 5, mail exchanger = smtp1.domain.com

smtp2.domain.com seems to be non-responsive. But smtp3.domain.com and
smtp1.domain.com are live. My messages get bounced back saying
delivery failed after 20 attempts. The last time I had this problem I
turned up the logging level and found that IMail was trying to send to
smtp2.domain.com when it should be trying smtp1.domain.com since it is
the preferred server. It looks like IMail is just using the first one
returned assuming that they will be returned in order of preference.

Does anyone know why this is happening or at least confirm that I'm
diagnosing this right?

Thanks.
