I just got off the phone with Daniel over at IPSwitch and asked a few questions about automating some administration features from a remote machine. I can't quite figure out that why, with these options, that it can't be done:
External SQL Database The Remote Administration utility in the GUI Adddomain.exe Adduser.exe If you convert everything over to the SQL database (which sounds nice in theory, simply update the database for new accounts/domain), you still need to use the *GUI* to add the domain to the registry. By going to SQL, you're actually disabling the only "automated" tool available, ADDDOMAIN.EXE (which supposedly doesn't work with SQL at all). Addomain.exe doesn't work at all from a remote machine so we're out of luck there as well. The only option I can think of is using the -F option and running it every 30 seconds to scan a text file. Is this the only option that is available or does someone have a better answer for this? We've been requesting a remote version of ADDDOMAIN/ADDUSER for years now and it has yet to come out, so I'm looking for some type of workaround. My other thought is writing to the registry directly from a customized program/script with the information necessary to add a new domain. I'm told this is unsupported and that we're supposed to use the GUI. Has anybody attempted this and if so, is it reliable? I can't figure out why they market this product to ISP's, yet provide no centralized administration tools. -Mark McDonald EMail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Voice: 800.610.9856 Ext 2231 Cell: 805.857.5614 Fax: 888.333.2710 Please visit http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html to be removed from this list.
