IMail is handling this the same way it used to.  If the MX record isn't set 
up properly, you can add the entry to your HOSTS file and then E-mail their 
postmaster@ account to let them know what needs to be fixed.  That's about 
the best you can do, when domains do illegal things like using IPs instead 
of hostnames, or having CNAMEs in MX records, or having their primary 
mailserver always respond with a "Shutting down -- please try again" 
(assuming incorrectly that you'll try their backup server).
