For a sneak peak (it's still a bit rough), you can manually enter a URL in
the format:
http://www.DNSstuff.com/tools/mail.ch?domain=example.com
Currently, it checks the MX/A records and shows the order that they should
be used in, plus reports some common errors (using an IP instead of a
hostname, using a CNAME, using an A record instead of an MX record). You
can also enter an E-mail address instead of a domain, but that won't do
anything yet. Later, we will hopefully try connecting to the mailservers
and report what happens when trying to send mail to a specific user.
Sample output would show the MX records in sorted order, followed by a
"step-by-step" description of what the mailserver should do. For example:
Step 1: Try connecting to the following mailserver:
mail.dnsstuff.com. - 66.189.58.123
Step 2: If unsuccessful in step 1, try connecting to all of these
(in no specific order):
smtp.easydns.com. - 205.210.42.30
smtp2.easydns.com. - 205.210.42.31
Step 3: If still unsuccessful, queue the E-mail for later delivery.
I have a feeling this may end up being a highly used tool...
