I know that the standard explanation for this problem is a faulty NIC card
and it may well be the case. However, isn't it strange that the bad NICs
only drop angle brackets? I'm open to explanations!

P.S. Okay, maybe the bad NICs drop other bytes and the bad checksum causes
the sender to re-send and everything appears OK. But still...
