They did, eventually--that's why it was changed in 7.1. I don't think this is nearly as irretrievably broken as you suggest, since major work has been done on it recently. It's just one of those "create-if-does-not-exist" things that IMail has always done, most of which are helpful, but this one was a mistake to have hard-coded once spam started doing its thing. Still, I wonder why, in practical use, you'd want to enable/disable this feature on a per-user basis, if you're trying to avoid spam that will affect all users. If some people object, you could give them their own virtual domain--they probably have different tasks anyway, if their work *depends* on this feature. I certainly don't think it has to be part of the basic package at an ISP or anything! If you want the messages out of your users' hair and mailboxes, and don't have the right IMail version, revoke SMTPD32's right to create new files in the user subdirectories.
