I'd leave them there and wait until you make a decision on whether this tactic has/not had any effect.
This tactic is quick and easy to do, vs. opening the box and playing around with the ram, disk, cables, dust balls, pollution crud, p/s, etc.
"easy" does not mean "accurate" :)) but it sure beats crossing your fingers.
