Our Imail server locked up on Tues. night...

We're running W2k, SP3, Imail 7.13, Declude, F-Prot on Dell 2650 1G RAM.
Are you using the F-Prot.exe file, or fpcmd.exe with Declude Virus?

There seem to be a small percentage of servers that have extremely serious problems running 16-bit programs, for no apparent reason (which can cause performance issues such as very slow response to TCP/IP connections). If you are using F-Prot.exe (which is a 16-bit program), I would recommend switching to fpcmd.exe (which is 32-bits). The one catch in changing between the two programs is that you need to remove the "/NOFLOPPY" switch (which is required for the 16-bit version, but which the 32-bit version does not understand). If you need help with the change, you can E-mail me off the list.

We find nothing remarkable in event log, nothing remarkable in Imail logs.
I've cut Imail processes from 35 to 20 (thinking maybe "mystery heap"
problem).
That shouldn't be an issue -- Microsoft has it set up so that you can actually have thousands of "half open" processes without causing the server to crash (if it happens, you'll see lots of pop-up boxes).

The only oddity is that the explorer process tends to lock up when trying to
access Imail spool folder. I can go anywhere else in file system but 1 out
of 2 times it locks up when I try to go in there. Checked from command line
and it's got about 2000 files.
Hmmm. 2000 files is a lot of files, but shouldn't be enough to cause Explorer to choke.

I would recommend opening some of the D*.SMD files in that directory manually, to make sure that they are legitimate E-mails. With 2,000 files in there, they most likely are legitimate, but it's worth checking.
