Imail does not do this but Imgate does. Here is a line from my Imgate logfile that 
identifies the check for a valid e-mail address as the sender.

Out: 450 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Sender address rejected: undeliverable sender 
address: host mx2.hotmail.com[65.54.252.230] said: 550 Requested action not taken: 
mailbox unavailable (in reply to RCPT TO command)

from yesterday's statistics from my imgate box (and we have a small mail server)

  Count    Reason
    252 ACL unverified sender address: definitive
    810 ACL undeliverable sender address: definitive
