well, all i know is it didn't do it with my last mail server, so i dunno, oh well, i'll live with it for now AIM - rtflakfiser ICQ - 69282249 YahooMessenger - rtflakfiser MSN - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Collections: DVD Console Gamertag - FLAKfiser -------Original Message------- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Tuesday, February 11, 2003 11:06:07 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] How to stop local relay? >well how come the software can't detect that the person sending the email >isn't a valid user? > and the rtf@mydomain would not be a valid address on the domain. Because there just isn't any way to do that (no mailserver in the world that I know of attempts to determine that the return address is valid). You *could* try starting an SMTP transaction with the @mydomain.com mailserver, and see if it appears to accept mail for [EMAIL PROTECTED] But, it often will say "OK, I'll accept mail for that user", when it will in fact later reject the E-mail. Or, in some rare cases, it may say "No, I won't accept mail for that user" when in fact the address is valid. And, many domains have a "catchall" account, and accept all E-mail -- so even if you know the E-mail was delivered, that doesn't mean that the account exists. -Scott --- Declude JunkMail: The advanced anti-spam solution for IMail mailservers.
