You can ignore the non-problem.The problem I'm running into is some mail servers are rejecting email because the DNS PTR record for the server's ip address matches domain1.com, but when it EHLO's with domain2.com it doesn't match and the receiving server rejects the mail. What can I do?
The problem here is that the remote mailserver is configured in a way that it shouldn't be. They have their mailserver set up in a way so that it is not RFC-compliant, and so that quite a bit of legitimate mail will rejected.
Unfortunately, there are some people that have a very militant attitude towards spam (or are just clueless), and it is often impossible to make them happy.
Over 20% of the legitimate mail we receive here comes from mailservers with no reverse DNS entry. None of our customers that I am aware of is willing to drop over 20% of their legitimate mail in order to reduce spam, no matter how bad the spam problem is.
So this is really a problem on the remote end.
