So what am I
missing?

skill in search the list message archives. :)) or maybe the list archives are broken.

1) log to another machine

2) set up a non-Imail log server on the IMail machine and log to that, set that log server to log to a partition or disk separate from the Imail spool/ or the Imail mailboxes. Sandford list a Win32 log server, "kiwi" something or other. sounds like a good search term. :)

turn off all logging except SMTP, turn on any off'ed logging only to trace problems. This is important conservation of disk i/o on machines with stressed disks.
