***FOLLOW UP***

All,

This is just a follow up to the message that I posted (see below) concerning the
mass-removal of accounts from a system that authenticates using Windows NT.

My organization was very successful in first expiring, then deactivating, deleting the
user accounts from NT User Manger, and lastly, deleting the mailboxes for these
accounts using the IMail Find Orphan feature.

To be sure, the usernames of these removed accounts no longer show up in the IMail
Administrator GUI.

However, and back to my primary query concerning the Windows registry, it seems that
the instances of the removed user accounts in the registry are NOT removed with the
Find Orphan | Remove All tool. Registry Location, in our case,
[HKLM|SOFTWARE|Ipswitch|IMail|Domains|mail2.udallas.edu|Users]

(1) I did report this issue to Ipswitch.
(2) Ipswitch tech support did acknowledge the matter and suggested that each
registry entry be removed either manually or by a batch .reg file if needed.
(3) However, Ipswitch tech support emphasized the fact that, should a new user
account be created with the same name of a previous account, its settings would
overwrite those of the orphaned registry key.

Question 1: Does anyone know what type of performance impact the Imail Servers
services face when dealing with the orphaned
[HKLM|SOFTWARE|Ipswitch|IMail|Domains|mail2.udallas.edu|Users] Windows registry
entries? Should I remove these entries from the Windows registry?

Note: Ive since removed a total of 3,000 accounts using NT and then IMail Find
Orphans.

Question 2: Since the removed accounts are still in the
[HKLM|SOFTWARE|Ipswitch|IMail|Domains|mail2.udallas.edu|Users] registry, what would
happen if I utilized the mailall command line feature?

Thanks, as always!

Sean

We have Imail authenticating users with an NT Database. I am getting ready to remove
about 1,500 accounts from the NT system (students that have since moved on in life)
which will result in 1,500 orphaned mailboxes on the Imail server.

Question: Once the accounts are removed from NT, is it enough to just use Find
Orphans in Imail and delete what is found?

I know this seems like a simple question but what Im really interested in is if there
is some sort of strange thing going on in the Windows Registry that I need to be aware
before taking such an action. Is the Find Orphans tool as simple as it seems?

Thanks!
