How well does the Message Sniffer work on IMGate?
It's the same program, so will catch the same messages given the same rules.
The web site info looks good but I was wondering if the additional money is worth it. I mean, how much more percentage wise (than a standard IMGate using RBL)
note: The proportion of RBL rejects as total of all IMGate rejects is useful but not a huge proportion.
can the Message Sniffer stop? Anyone ever do any benchmarks?
Only one IMGate/Sniffer user has bothered to give me his stats, and they cluster around 96% for IMGate, then from what IMGate misses, Sniffer rejects another 4%, to get total "IMGate rejects then Sniffer rejects" reject of 100%.
For that site, it was a roughly 26K rejects/day, with 25K by IMGate, and another 1K by Sniffer. And after a couple of weeks after IMGate was installed, his rejects dropped to about 15k/day, but the 96:4 ratio held.
"YMWV", "your mileage WILL vary", because I have yet to see two IMGate sites where the pattern of rejects were any where near similar, compounded by the different setting in IMGate (and Sniffer).
Some spammers actually give up and go away after they hammer on IMGate and get 100% rejected. That's why I think nobody@ alias in IMail is evilly counter-productive, since the spammers think the mail is delivered so persist spamming, plus the attacked mail system wastes maximum bandwidth eating all the nobody@ traffic, which can be horrendous during dictionary attacks.
