This doesn't directly answer your question, but a roundabout way to not send vacation messages to a list server (or whomever else for that matter), is to add that email address to the vacation.snt file in the user's folder on the server. Each time a message is received, IMail checks that file and if the address is already listed, it won't send out the vacation message.
Like I said, it's not the best solution, but it works. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dan Shadix Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2003 2:44 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [IMail Forum] Vacation message to list servers On the SAMBA list I had the below conversation concerning vacation messages and listserves. Can Imail recognize mail with Precedence: List or in some other way recognize that mail is from a listserve and not send the vacation message? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dan Shadix said on Thu, Jun 05, 2003 at 01:22:54PM -0600: > The problem is that the messages from this list come addressed From: each person instead of the list. There's no way to set up the vacation message to know that the message is from a list (at least on our server). Then your server is broken. The Unix vacation program has been able to notice list email and not reply to it since 1983. Each message to the list provides more than enough information (List headers, etc) for an automated process to notice that this is a mailing list, and not reply to it.
