this was a feature that we have implemented in the past, using IMail v6 and Windows NT4.

we imported NT4 user accounts, then users were able to change their passwords and
it would synch with the database - that was my understanding.

You  can't  (like  the error says) change passwords, nor add or delete
users  for  that matter, through the IMail interfaces if you are using
NT SAM/AD DC integration. The intent is that you use the NOS' existing
tools  to  manage your userbase in that deployment. And I believe this
is  a  reasonable  limitation,  since  otherwise one false click could
destroy a user's permissions to many unrelated network resources.

If  you  create a standalone userbase by using either the IMail native
database or ODBC, you'll have full control from IMail.
