I''ve only just had a chance to try this.  I've reconfigured the ip
settings on the loopback adapter in various ways (e.g. dns server on same
ip, on different ip in same subnet, on different subnet through imaginary
gateway, etc.) but it always fails in the same way.

I'll install a dns server locally and be done with it.
