PROBLEMS WITH USER AFTER THEY UPGRADED FROM NETSCAPE 7.01 TO 7.1: Setup Information:
Windows NT 4 SP6 Imail ver 6.06 Relay for specified addresses - others require authentication. Details: User utilizes Netscape Mail for accessing company email. Was using Netscape 7.01 without any problems (other users are using Netscape versions 4.75 and 7.01). User upgraded system to Netscape 7.1 and this resulted in not being able to send email through our Imail server. Receiving email is not a problem. Also, when he does attempt to send email, this locks up the SMTPD32 service resulting in nobody being able to send email. Changed relay settings to Relay for Local Hosts (Temporarily) and the same problem occurred. Built a test workstation with the same configuration as the user and set up dummy test email account. Went through same upgrade process and got exactly the same result. SMTP services locked up until I manually stopped / restarted the SMTP service on the Imail server. I checked the Imail system log (sysMMDDYY) and there is a corresponding error message of SMTP process starting on port 25 (this is normal) Next line is SMTPD(00501354) Failed to bind socket (10048) The only time that I see this error or have problems with users sending email is with Netscape 7.1. Also, I have confirmed that the email settings, relating to the outgoing SMTP server, in Netscape did not change when going from version 7.01 to 7.1. Also, sending emails out via the Netscape Web-Mail server are working. Any ideas and/or suggestions are appreciated. Rick Phelps Horizon Environmental
