yep... or at least close enuff. Someone had sent me an email - the "from" was me, the "to" was me, the mail server was mine.. The message headers gave him away as it has his address as my mail server. I wanted to find out how he did it so, I started playing around with telnet. Thanks for the explanation. I understand now. The problem I have with "no relay" or "relay for these addresses" is that I have a forums package that sends out email notifications and, they were all bouncing with a "not local host, not a gateway". I had already added all the ip addresses to the table - but, it might be that I neglected to add 127.0.0.1 and that could be the problem. I have now added it to the address list and will watch the logs.
