Lots of talk about legal issues on the subject of blocking telemarketers and here is my experience with telemarketers and a tool that helped.
I often go home for lunch, read the paper, let the dog out and look forward to the 40 minutes of solitude, food and sometimes good weather. The phone would ring 2, 3 sometimes 4 times over that period. Well, as you might guess, most of them were telemarketers or what appeared to be 'hang up' calls (got into the habit of letting it ring at least 3 times before picking up, in hopes they would hang up before I picked up). Needless to say, that made my expected quiet time much less quiet than I was hoping for and a bit frustrating, too. Yes, we signed up for the Massachusetts DNC list, but it was going to be months before it would be put into effect. And in the evening, things were worse! Anyway, a few months after DNC sign up, I bought one of those TeleZapper devices. I figured "hey, if it just cuts the calls down by 25%, it could be worth the $30". Well, I was pleasently surprised, results are much better! I estimate calls are down by over 90% and the 'hang up' ones are completely gone. So, all you techies out there, here is a tool that works and from what I know about how it works, it will eventually get you removed from many of the dial lists that these folks use and share. Yea, it is individually more expensive for each consumer, but ultimately, it maybe cheaper in the long run, than the cost of laws, enforcement, court time, etc.... Hell, if they build enough of them, like any electronic item, they will become so cheap that anyone will be able to afford to have one. A few years down the road, the technology could be built into new phones (my idea, but I'll consider a small license fee to anyone who can make it work and cheaply)! Don't want this to sound like an advertisement, but hey, its cheap (IMHO), works and make my life nicer, so I think it is something to talk about! And if you too, are p***ed enough at the telemarketers, I bet my TeleZapper, that more than a few of you will also be happy with this little purchase.
