Bud, I have only been able to find Perl scripts mainly for linux. I am looking for a simple stand alone utility that will recurse the folders of a specified directory looking for mbx files and create a separate file (in the folder of the mbx file) beginning at each "From <" (each separate message). Would this be too much of a problem? How could I repay you for your efforts?
I've got a "bare bones" version of it complete, and will e-mail it to you after a little more testing (and lunch).
It's a Win32 command-line (console) utility called MBOX2MSG.EXE. There's 2 steps to using it, make a list of mail boxes, then use the program to break the mail boxes into messages:
This command goes first:
C:\> DIR C:\IMAIL\*.BOX /S/B >C:\IMAIL\BOXLIST.TXT
It creates text file with the file name of each mailbox in the format C:\IMAIL\USERS\USERNAME\BOXNAME.BOX. If you want, you can now edit the file to remove mailboxes from processing (like "TRASH").
Then, run the program, redirecting input to read the new text file:
C:\> MBOX2MSG < C:\IMAIL\BOXLIST.TXT
This will read each mailbox file, and product a text file for each message. The file name is a comination of the mailbox name (MAIN, etc) & the message number (i.e. MAIN_00001.MSG), and is created in the same directory as the mailbox file. No attempt is made to decode attachments or any of that -- All the message text is saved in the file.
The program is about 29K. I'll e-mail it to you, or if no one minds, I'll e-mail it to the list.
