So if V7 is not able to send email to a alternate MX..... Are there any
tricks to getting mail to this alternate MX without having to upgrade Imail?

This is a widely misunderstood problem.

IMail *will* attempt to deliver to the alternate MX records. The problem is that sometimes, under certain circumstances, IMail will incorrectly use the A record. It's not 100% clear when it will do it, which versions will do it, etc. And upgrading isn't an option, either -- there have been reports of v8 doing this, too. It doesn't seem to do it nearly as much as with older versions, though, so it sounds like Ipswitch did fix something, but not everything, that could cause the behavior.
