Last I heard, Hotmail was using some proprietary form of FreeBSD as their
operating system.

That was years ago. They tried to migrate from the original Hotmail's FreeBSD (Ballmers innovation policy: "take the best out their and make it ours") to NT4, failed (like it flat didn't work), and then when W2K arrived, they spent millions finally dropping FreeBSD for W2K, but at least they have to eat their own cooking, but, we see this week, we have to put up with the smell.


Unless things have changed recently, I don't think that
they are running Windows.

They've been running W2K since 2000 or 2001 for Hotmail. They made a big deal in the press about it. But I think they kept running Solaris for their Hotmail DNS since W2K DNS couldn't do it. I can't see them making any big deal about the cuisine this week.
