We reverse them here for that very reason. And have for years.
Of course, what would be ideal is if IMail could handle this properly, and have the "Official" name and the alias(es) be separate from the web name of the server. That way, you could have the official name of a domain be "example.com", with no aliases, and have "mail.example.com" as the web name. In this case, web messaging would use mail.example.com in the URLs it creates, web messaging would use "@example.com" for return addresses, and there would be *no* problem with having to accept mail addressed to @mail.example.com forever (which is what the current scenario requires).
Requiring you to accept mail to the web name of the mailserver is really a poor design.
