Something to "whittle down" the syslog. I've got several former-employee accounts still active as "spam trappers"
I'm also amazed at the amount of email sent to accounts that have never existed. These have always been spam.

Bad idea. Check the headers on my message (I'm sending you a direct copy). MANY people do NOT send through the SMTP server that their FROM or REPLY-TO address indicates. I have addresses on several different domains and I send them all out through a mail host on my home system that routes all outbound mail through the SMTP server at my ISP (gt.rr.com).
