I've spent a little bit thinking about smtp and smtpd after reading this:
http://www.declude.com/info/logs.htm

And now I have a few questions on the topic:

Does smtpd mean smtp daemon?

Is smtpd a device that listens for messages coming in, or messages that need to go
out, and smtp is actually the mechanisms which delivers it?

Does smtpd receive an incoming email from another server pushing via smtp, and then
deliver to a local user via smtp?

Does smtpd receive an email from a user, and then use smtp to send it out to another
server?
