Question/Problem: Why do AOL or Cable Modem users have problems logging in
to webmail? AOL (or other ISP) users cannot login, they keep being dropped
to the login page.

Answer/Solution: AOL dialup users are behind a shifting-IP proxy, so their
IP number changes often, sometimes on every new http request. IMail's
default session control method for webmail checks the user's IP, and makes
sure it matches against the IP entered when the user first logged in. As you
can see, this will in effect kick out AOL users at random, usually on their
first or second page load after logging in.

Check the "Ignore Source Address in Security Check" option in the IMail
Administrator | localhost | Services | Web Messaging screen. Hit Apply, then
stop and restart Web Messaging. By NOT having that checked, your AOL dialup
users, or anyone else behind shifting-IP proxies (some cable modem
networks), will not be able to login, or if they do, will get kicked out at
random.

Subject: [IMail Forum] AOL and WebMail

Hey all,

We have 2 users that are trying to use AOL to get to their email through
Regular ol' Imail Webmail. It used to work fine but in the past three weeks
they cant seem to log in. It asks for the Username and password then it
comes back to the same page again. Not saying Wrong username or password
etc.

It works fine from the same computers on different types of Internet access
except AOL

Any clues?

Thanks,
Jay
