I'd also recommend Ethereal.

You can also build a "wire replacement" sniffer with a Linux box, 2 NIC
cards, and a crossover cable.

You configure the NIC cards into an ethernet bridge and use ethereal to
sniff the
traffic. The advantage of this "smart wire" is you don't have to
reconfigure any TCP/IP settings.

Regards,

Brad

Subject: [IMail Forum] OT : Network Sniffer

Hello,

I'm looking for a "not to expensive but efficient" network sniffer.
I don't know much about sniffers... :(

I need to monitor "everything" that's going on between my Firewall and
one computer in my office (behind the firewall) I'm using wireless
connection (802.11) with my laptop and the computer and firewall are on
a switched network. My wireless base is also plugged on the same
network as the computer and firewall.

I need this 'cause we're using a "in-house" video-conferencing software
and I need to check what's going on between the server and the firewall
when someone from outside connect to it (the server).

Problem is that the computer that I need to monitor is a Mac... Soon to
be change for PC. So I can't really "connect" to it with my laptop.

I just need some suggestion from you guys... :)

Thank you !
Vincent
