It scans e-mail as it arrives, and if a virus is detected, I have it set up to reject the e-mail at the SMTP level before it accepts it so it doesn't bounce mail to bogus addresses. I haven't received one Bagle.j virus.
However, be aware that you will. Even ClamAV can't detect DYNAMIC viruses in ENCRYPTED .ZIP files (see previous posts if you want to argue this!)
