We use KWM with images hosted on an IIS-Webserver and are happy with this
solution.
The only "limitation" is that webmail can't run on a separate server.

We have also the IMP/Horde webmail on an Linux machine that connects trough
IMAP and works fine, with the limitation that users can't do special things
like changing passwords, forwarding, rules, auto-responders, ...

As I know there are out some commercial IMAP ASP/ASP.NET components that can
be used to develope an ASP Webmail solution. In combination with the Imail
API and some direct file-edits it should be possible to create an ASP-Based
web interface.
