Hi all. I need my memories refreshed a little bit.

Is it possible to set up Imail server as an SMTP front-end (say in front of
an Exchange server) and have it relay all inbound mail?

My thinking is that first of all Imail would have to have the local domain
name, otherwise it would reject all inbound messages with "550 not a local
domain".

But once it has the local domain name, it will just trap all the messages.

I guess on a user-by-user basis forwarding could be setup like
[EMAIL PROTECTED] -> [EMAIL PROTECTED] but that's a pain in the
butt to administrate, plus the Exchange server would have to have
exchange.mydomain.com defined on it, and exchange.mydomain.com would have to
be able to be resolved (creating a zone in local DNS or playing with HOSTS
files).

I think I remember from some time ago that it is possible to just set up a
HOSTS file on the Imail server pointing mydomain.com to the IP address of
the Exchange server and that would make Imail believe that mydomain.com is a
"good" domain, just not located ON the Imail server. Does this work?

Thanks!
