Seems to me that others have already asked the right questions, but let me
put it the way I would handle it.

1. Confirm that the various mail clients point to the correct mail server.
2. Check the DNS records for that client's access (DSL) provider.  The fact
that you can force it to work by using the IP address suggests to me that
they're still returning *their* mail server's IP when your mail clients
reference the mail server.
3. It's possible that they are forcing all mail through their mail server.
If so, they should be able to turn off this feature for your client.

You are right, however, that it is not an IMail problem.
