I have been trapping incoming messages with Z*I*P* file attachments. I redirect these messages to a VirusBox. I then separate out the messages into individual files and pass the files through McAfee VirusScan.
Any real messages without viruses/worms are sent on to the intended recipient. I have been recommending to my clients the renaming of Z*I*P* files to ZAP prior to attachment and including a note in the message about the renaming. One client gets a lot of mail from a user at AOL. The AOL user claimed that AOL Z*I*P*s ALL outgoing file attachments. I searched for any clue about this issue at http://postmaster.aol.com and found nothing. I called the postmaster help desk at AOL and opened a trouble ticket. First level did not have an answer. Second level did.... If you are an AOL member and you send a single file as an attachment the attachment is NOT Z*I*P*P*E*D*. If you send a message with multiple files, those files are Z*I*P*P*E*D*. They admitted this is not documented at http://postmaster.aol.com but it documented for AOL members the member help files. An AOL user can use the Z*I*P* to ZAP method as long as you send a single file attachment. db To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/
