The recommended minimum in RFC2821 is 30 minutes, and for good reason -- if a remote server is tempfailing your mail, it wants you to go away and come back later, not hammer it with retry attempts. If something is so time-critical that a 10 minute delay is a problem, you shouldn't be using email.
