I help admin a Hosting company that also provides mail using IMAIL. I want to be able to do the following.
1) Connection Tarring, To slow Dictionary attacks and mail bombs 2) Throttle SMTP/POP3 IN/OUT to various speeds to control flow of traffic in & outbound to each service.
Unfortunately, those are not possible with IMail, as IMail does not have any way for third party programs to interact with the SMTP session. All processing is done after the E-mail is received.
I see that there are 3rd party programs out there for IMAIL that run as a separate device in front of the IMAIL server, But im more interested in a solution based on the server.
Actually, that's backwards -- the third party programs integrate directly with IMail (which prevents them from being able to intercept the SMTP connection), rather than running in front of IMail (while would allow them to interact with the SMTP session, but with a huge amount of unnecessary overhead).
