This has come up a few times and I have seen this as well only with Outlook 2003, but some say Outlook 2002 as well.  Ipswitch is aware of the problem and are trying to determine if it’s a MS issue or an Outlook issue.  Please forward your info to Ipswitch Tech Support as they are having a hard time finding the source of the problem.  In my opinion it’s most likely an Outlook problem because it doesn’t know when to stop writing the message to the file.

Subject: [IMail Forum] 2 GB mbx-file and 80 MB tmp-file

Hi all,

Last friday something very strange happened. A 2 GB mbx-file " Junk E-mail.mbx " appeared in one of the users' folders on the mailserver. The file didn't contain anything other than a 3 MB e-mail according to the Imail Client. This caused our server to crash because disc-space ran out, so I would like to investigate what happened here.

Anyone any thoughts?

Another strange file that occurred that day was the file " PAB196904.tmp ", 80 MB large. Anyone know what that is?

I have the spool folder, tmp-file and mbx-file available in very small zips (somehow they compress very well! The 2 GB file compresses to 947 KB and the 80 MB file compresses to 211 KB).

Regards,

Nika.
