And  its  amazing that people continue to use broken software instead of
switching to an alternative.

Off hand in addition to that annoyance theres
  - uses netbios name on EHLO instead of fqhn
  - doesn't recognize the correct AUTH syntax requiring the MTA to send
    out a broken version in addition to the correct one
  - doesn't support CRAM-MD5 authentication
