Thanks. Spoke with Eric at tech supp and he diagnosed it was actually some sort of bottleneck on the firewall. Odd, because no large number of active threads, CPU, memory usage, etc., but after resetting the router, switches and the rest, the reset of the FW did the trick.

Good idea - the local telnet. Missed that one, and it would have indicated that IMail was fine and that the snag was the network itself (or more specifically, the firewall).

Thanks again

One thing to try is at the console on the mail server, open a command prompt
an type "telnet localhost 25" without the quotes and see if the delay is the
same on the local server as well. You can do the same for POP3 as well just
change the 25 to 110. If the delay is similar on the server itself try
restarting the services and then try the above again. If the problem still
exists you may want to try restarting the entire server.

Check the network and DNS.

We're on 8.13 with a dual xeon box, 1gb ram, 700mb free ram, CPU 80-90% idle and 30 GB free disk on IMail drive, 10GB free on OS drive We're also running Declude AV & Junkmail. AV: F-Prot & CLAM

Users have been calling unable to send / receive this AM. Some get through
after 3-4 tries. In the office, on the LAN, we experience the same problem.
Eudora: Logging into POP server... waits 30 seconds, and then connects and
retrieves the message. Sending sees a similar delay. Some don't get
through at all on send/receive, others after a long delay.

Bandwidth usage is low. Memory is free. CPU is near nill. QueueMGR,
SMTPD32 and Pop3D32 are all running.

I'm really scratching my head on this one. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Chris
