No, you buy ICS at the special offer price by Dec 31 2004 and your SA won't
be due for renewal for one year PLUS any existing time on your current SA.
You don't "pay the full price if you want to upgrade" because you have
already upgraded with the December purchase. You merely renew you SA
annually as before, just at a much higher price if you weren't already using
the AV product.

So take us for example, we renewed our SA on 10/15/04. We can buy ICS
before 12/31 at a discounted price for 250 users of $2995 or $2495 depending
on the type of AV we choose. Since out existing SA is now due to expire on
10/15/05 we tack the new year of "service" cough :o), on to have a new
renewal date of 10/15/06. So no more money will be due till then, and that
will be $2695 a year (250 user with Symantec AV) according to the sales
chick I spoke to. That might even be an acceptable price if the AV and
anti-spam were sufficient to do the job as well or better than other
offerings, but sadly they are not, judging from the activity on this list.

While the initial upgrade price is high, it is not insurmountable, but the
annual support fee is priced waaaaay out of line to be a valid
consideration.

I have seen some numbers thrown about for the annual SA but there is nothing
concrete on the website yet as far as I can see so those numbers may still
be up in the air.
