I have been getting 10054 errors for years and I have postfix gateways 
handling mail first.  I just ignore them at this point.  Ipswitch told 
me I had a "low quality NIC" and that was the problem.  They said I 
should buy a 3com NIC.  I told them they were full of it.  I have dual 
port Intel pro server NIC on it.  They have never been able to solve the 
problem.  Great support huh? :)

server is using a duel port on board Intel Pro MT 1000 Gigabit adapter; 
so I followed your advice and updated the NIC drivers to the latest 
version available from Intel and set the card to 100MB full duplex.
