Here's one for you, HP discontinued a mid range platform(HP3000) in 2000 that many companies run their business with. They gave us until 2006 for support but basically took 30 years of specific systems development and archived it for their customers. Many manufacturing, health care, etc had their main systems on the platform.... And to top that off, they announced this with no advanced warnings beforehand.
