This isn't a bug of imap client.
That's a matter of debate, but I'd say that it's a bug if the client doesn't let you change its idea of the mailbox directory. Apple seem to agree, because they've changed Mail.app ... starting with Jaguar (I believe), you can set the path. It's the prefix in the advanced options.
